Acme Donuts
I have an weakness for a good donut, and I’ve tried a vast majority of the donut shops around town. A good donut should be no frills, no extravagant toppings, and still be able to hold up. I went with a bakers half-dozen today to try out several varieties, and found the best to be just that…simple. The raised donuts had good toppings, but the dough was a bit tough, and the same can be said for the filled varieties. The cake donuts are what would bring be back to Acme. Basic glaze or dark chocolate topping that didn’t overpower the soft, lightly sweet cake.
A bit more expensive than most shops, most donuts sell for $1.50, but a good deal on the bakers half or full dozen ($6.50 and $12, respectively). I’m not unhappy that this will be my new neighborhood donut shop, but I’ll stick with the cake.
wow, it’s been awhile…
It’s been much too long, and I’ve been neglecting my page. I’ve signed up on twitter (www.twitter.com/wineandinepdx) and will be updating here & there again soon. keep watching…
An Open Invitation…
I have a love for food and drink, and it seems that there is no better place for it than here in the great city of Portland. There seems to be a never-ending supply of new and unique eateries: bars, restaurants, neighborhood cafes…
So, as I tend to try and get out to new places then and again, I’ve decided to begin to catalogue and track my experiences here. Whenever I go somewhere, and eat or drink anything (no fast food, that doesn’t count) I’ll write about my experience. Hopefully you, my dedicated reader, will take a little something away from it, and maybe try somewhere new. If, by chance, you have a favorite local spot, or know a great little out-of-the-way diner, let me know. It may just end up here…
